The right way to BE UNIQUE

Montserrat

This can be a lifelong project, as letterforms are constantly discovered in urban situations. This case is the opposite of standard typography; typefaces go from the streets to the computer, like digitising something from scratch

Anima Linotype

Anima Linotype

Visible from the outside due to the subtle transparency of the acetate and made to an exclusive Good’s design, it reproduces - with an engraved inscription - the right way to look at things developed from right to left, like the lead lines produced by the traditional Linotype typographic machine, invented in 1886 and defined by Thomas Edison as The Eighth Wonder of the World.

Ispiration

The Montserrat typeface is inspired by the Montserrat font, designed by Julieta Ulanovsky in 2010. This font draws on and recreates the typefaces from the 1920s and 1950s found on road signs, posters, painted shop windows and café awnings in the historic Montserrat district of Buenos Aires.

Characterised by a tall height, with short descenders and wide openings, this typeface achieves excellent legibility even at small sizes.

Caratterizzato da una grande altezza, con discendenti corti e ampie aperture, questo carattere raggiunge un’elevata leggibilità anche in piccole dimensioni.

Description

Bioacetate: The frame is made from Mazzucchelli M49 bioacetate, which is 100% recyclable and biodegradable, and contains no chemical additives to reduce the risk of allergic reactions. Its natural origin is also evident to the touch, with a pleasant warm and silky feel.

Front: The front has been designed to reflect the proportions of the font, characterised by short temples and wide openings that give the frame a soft, delicately sinuous and well-proportioned line. The opaline top interacts with the translucent base to create an interesting trompe l’oeil effect that lightens the perceived weight of the frame, whilst the two-tone colour scheme is enhanced by the distinctive milling on the bridge and nose pads.

Temple: ‘Sail’ model, named after its shape, which resembles a rudder bar. The perforated ‘o’ from the Good’s logo is reproduced at the tip.

Fun facts

“As urban development transforms this place, it will never return to its original form and will lose its special, unique designs forever. To design the letters, I draw inspiration from examples of lettering found in urban spaces. Each selected example produces its own variations in length, width and height, each of which is added to the Montserrat family. Old signboards and bus shelters are lost forever once they are replaced”
