Bottone D

You could become an archangel, a madman, or a criminal, and no one would notice. But if you lose a button, everyone notices right away.

Inspired by the button, whose history begins in prehistoric times, specifically in the Bronze Age, and continues to this day. The history of buttons reflects the changes in society and fashion over the centuries: initially, they had a purely ornamental function (16th century), then they also took on the function of opening and closing two pieces of fabric (18th century), and later became an element of status and beauty, playing a significant role in the history of fashion.

Inspiration

The Bottone D model is inspired by the button, whose history begins in prehistoric times, specifically in the Bronze Age, and continues to this day. The history of buttons reflects the changes in society and fashion over the centuries: initially, they had a purely ornamental function (16th century), then they also took on the function of opening and closing two pieces of fabric (18th century), and later became an element of status and beauty, playing a significant role in the history of fashion.

Description

Bioacetate: the frame is made of Mazzucchelli M49 bioacetate, 100% recyclable and biodegradable, with no chemical agglomerates to reduce the risk of allergic reactions. Its natural origins are also evident to the touch, with a pleasantly warm and silky feel.

Front: the minimalist design evokes the shape of a double-geometry button. The extremely thin circular steel frame—available in two different colors, gold and silver—incorporates an acetate eye, round on the outside and oval on the inside. The interplay of milling highlights the double geometry and enhances the color choices. The opaline top interacts with the translucent base in an interesting trompe l’oeil effect that lightens the frame’s perceived weight and adds a distinctive luminosity.

Temple: “tie” style, featuring a metal front with a thimble decoration, while the matching acetate tip resembles a tie. The tip features a perforated “o” from the Good’s logo.

Curiosity

Cristóbal Balenciaga was obsessed with perfection and proportion. His idea was that buttons should be small and discreet, almost invisible, so as not to “break” the line of the garment. His ironclad rule, contrary to the decorative and showy use of buttons in the Middle Ages, was that the button should never exceed the size of the woman’s eye, to preserve elegance and not distract from the dress. Therefore, it should have an exclusively functional value and be subordinate to the design of the garment, an idea he himself called revolutionary for the time.
